SONNY BOY It’s 1930. Rika van der Lans lives in a small flat in Den Haag and takes on a tenant: Waldemar Nods. He’s 17, from Surinam and black. In the face of societal conventions, they fall in love. A year later, she gives birth to their son Waldy. They marry and open a small bed and breakfast on the sea. When the Nazi march into Holland, Waldemar and Rika shelter the endangered – Jews, the politically persecuted and a deserter.
